St Paul’s Cathedral is a vibrant working church, a national treasure and a London icon. Designed by Sir Christopher Wren in the late 17th century, the Cathedral has been the Cathedral Church of the Diocese of London for over 1,400 years.
St Paul’s draws together, in its ministry and daily life, a range of activities and aspirations. Amongst other roles, it is the Cathedral of the Diocese of London and the seat of its Bishop, a national and international spiritual focus, a space for worship and holiness, a place of debate and challenge, an icon of resilience in the face of adversity, an architectural heritage centre, a partner in the City of London, a visitor attraction, and a commercial enterprise. As a Christian church, St Paul’s seeks to preach and share the Gospel, yet is also ‘owned’ by many who would profess no Christian faith. A particular theme of its vision is inclusion and diversity, and the Cathedral seeks constantly to engage with questions of how to express this appropriately in its life and work.
St Paul’s Cathedral Enterprises Limited provides financial support to St Paul’s Cathedral itself by engaging in a wide range of commercial activities, including heritage retail, corporate events and licensing. The purpose of these activities is to generate a surplus which, after the deduction of operating expenses, is donated in its entirety annually under a deed of covenant to St Paul’s for its general purposes and the furtherance of its Christian Mission.
