The Serco People Fund has recently been created with a £4 million fund by Serco Group plc, the FTSE 250 provider of public services which employs over 50,000 people around the world. It is an independent charity supporting Serco colleagues, their close families and retired Serco employees when they face extraordinary financial challenges, and is looking to expand its impact globally.
The People Fund embraces Serco's value of Care and strives to provide support and aid to colleagues, their families and retired colleagues in times of need. As an independent charity, it does this by providing financial grants in response to applications from colleagues and, where helpful, connecting them to other assistance. These grants are c. £800 on average, with £55,000 already given out in the Fund's opening months.
Support is provided for a wide range of situations which colleagues and their close families might face. The charity is open to making a financial contribution to any situation which is judged to be an extraordinary financial challenge, but the situations most likely to be supported are where individuals:
- Face an unusual level of hardship or a personal crisis
- Need emergency support following a natural disaster
- Are facing costs associated with education and training
- Need help with your health, wellbeing or recovery
Where the Fund is unable to help, it signposts individuals to other sources of help and advice.
Having been launched at the beginning of 2022 and currently supporting Serco colleagues across the UK, the Fund is now looking to expand its reach across the four geographies in which Serco Group plc operates: UK & Europe, North America, Asia Pacific and the Middle East. It is also considering how to make use of employee giving and events to ensure that it can support as many people as possible in times of need.
