About

Parallel Learning Trust is looking to find at least two new Members to join its Supervisory Board. Members of the Supervisory Board should provide oversight and scrutiny across the work of the Operating Board. They create a clear separation between the role and work of the Operating and Supervisory Board.

Members play a limited but crucial role in safeguarding academy trust governance. They should not stray into undertaking The Academies' Trustees' role but should assure themselves that the governance of the trust is effective, that The Academies' Trustees are acting in accordance with the trust’s charitable object(s) and that they, the Members, use their powers to step in if governance is failing.

Most notably, Members are responsible for defining the Trust’s charitable object, amending the articles of association, appointing or removing Trustees, appointing the Trust’s auditors and receiving the Trust’s annual audited accounts, and ultimately dissolving the academy trust if required.

Person specification

Candidates will bring previous experience in corporate or charity governance and should have a demonstrable background in leadership roles with strategic vision and knowledge of the Non-Executive Director role. It would be desirable, but not essential if candidates also have an educational background and ideally have experience with special needs education.

The new Members of Parallel Learning Trust will be committed to the ethos and values of the academy which has a particular focus on providing a holistic education and developing a clearer community engagement model. Given the external pressures that face academies, and the potential to grow the Multi-Academy Trust and / or acquire local primary schools, the Academies also seek to appoint Members who are committed to the vision of the Parallel Learning Trust.

Terms of appointment

There are two meetings per year (half yearly and yearly) and Members will be required to prepare for meetings with readings and provide remote support on occasion. Meetings will be held virtually and therefore, no travel will be required and Members are not expected to visit the academies. The length of term is indefinite and Members have the right to resign provided there are at least three Members. This role is unremunerated.

The deadline for consideration is 3rd May.

If you would like to register your interest, please fill in the form below. A member of the Nurole team will be in touch ahead of the deadline to let you know whether it would be worth submitting a full application and to discuss the process further.
