About

Nafsiyat is an intercultural therapy centre that has offered high-quality community-based intercultural psychotherapy  and counselling services to people from diverse religious, cultural and ethnic communities in London since 1983. It provides short to medium-term individual, couple, group and family therapy in over 20 languages, and delivers training workshops on cultural competency to organisations all over the UK.

Nafsiyat provides an accessible and culturally appropriate service to meet the mental health needs of the Black, African, Asian, minoritised ethnic and refugee communities of London. Its staff are fully-qualified psychotherapists and counsellors, and experienced at working with people from diverse backgrounds. The organisation is accredited as a membership organisation of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and registered as a charity.

Intercultural psychotherapy and counselling recognises the importance of race, culture, beliefs, values, attitudes, religion and language; and the external realities of the client's life: poverty, refugee status, racism, sexism, physical health and abilities. Recognising the differences and similarities of various aspects of culture for both the client and therapist and also being sensitive to the external realities of the client during therapy / counselling are considered vital for the successful outcome of the therapy. As such, Nafsiyat provide therapy sessions in its clients’ specific languages to eradicate barriers and truly help them. You can learn more about how Nafsiyat provides therapy in multiple languages here.
