The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is renowned for its research, postgraduate studies and continuing education in public and global health. Founded in 1899 at the London Docks, LSHTM is now based in Bloomsbury, where it has two main sites at Keppel Street and Tavistock Place, and additional sites in The Gambia and Uganda which joined in 2018.

Role specification

The Remuneration Committee reviews the performance and determines the terms and conditions of the Director and the Senior Office Holders. It ensures such staff are appropriately rewarded in terms of their recruitment, retention & motivation through a fair and equitable process which is robust and proportionate in its use of funds.

The Committee provides oversight of the recommendations from the Senior Staff Advisory Group in respect of High Earning Staff in line with the CUC remuneration code. It is responsible for approving severance arrangements for staff in accordance with the Office for Students requirements

Person specification

The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is looking for someone with expertise in remuneration matters within the public or third sector.

Applicants will bring an in-depth understanding of issues around compensation and reward, as well as how EDI factors relate to these. Given the School's funding sources from government, non-profits and philanthropy, this will ideally have been gained in settings where there is increased public scrutiny of value for money, for example in a government department or large charity. The successful candidate will be able to guide the Committee as it ensures that remuneration recommendations are fair and internationally competitive, while also being a proportionate use of funds.

Terms of appointment

This role is unremunerated, and reasonable, pre-agreed domestic travel expenses will be reimbursed. The Remuneration Committee usually meets once per year for two hours; this is normally face to face but virtual attendance can be accommodated. Any other ad hoc matters arising outside these meetings are conducted via email. The appointment is for an initial three-year term.
