CIPS offers a ‘one-stop shop’ for procurement and supply excellence in people, processes and performance. It sets the global standard in procurement and supply management and is an awarding body recognised by regulatory authorities.

Holder of a Royal Charter, CIPS is a non-profit organisation with offices around the world; it has local operations in Europe, Australasia, Africa and Middle East / North Africa. It has a global membership of over 62,500 in 150 countries, including senior business people, high-ranking civil servants and leading academics.

It reinvests its income to advance global best practices in procurement and supply, ultimately for the public good.

Role specification

The Global Board of Trustees is the principal governing body of CIPS and is collectively responsible for the leadership and direction of the organisation. CIPS’ current strategy focuses on consolidating CIPS’ global offering and key areas of growth including the USA and the Middle East. It will strengthen the member and employer value propositions to ensure that CIPS remains relevant, and continues to support both its members and the profession for the wider public good.

Roles of the Trustees include:

  • Setting the organisational strategy
  • Overseeing, monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the strategy against agreed objectives
  • Holding the Executive to account by providing constructive scrutiny and challenge
  • Mentoring and supporting the Executive Team
  • Offering independence, external perspective, skills and challenge
  • Ensuring that CIPS fulfils its Royal Charter and charity obligations under charity law
  • Being responsible for the overall governance of CIPS Group globally, prudent financial management of the organisation, and organisational risk management

Person specification

The Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply is looking for two new Global Board Trustees with a global mindset and significant experience of non-UK markets. One will bring a background in ESG / sustainability, and another expertise in digitalisation / technology.

CIPS is supporting members as they tackle the new global economic environment in a post-pandemic world - addressing climate and the wider ESG agenda as well as developing new ways of digitising supply chains. It is therefore keen to strengthen an understanding of these issues on the Board.

Given the global nature of its operations and membership, candidates will bring significant experience of non-UK markets, ideally in North America, Asia, the Middle East or Africa.
