The successful candidates will bring relevant senior-level experience to lead the commercial activity that ensures the financial stability of the NHS.
The NHS is one of the largest and most complex commercial “organisations” in the country, buying on behalf of the fifth biggest employer in the world. NHS commercial teams consist of commercial, procurement and supply chain professionals operating at national, regional, and local levels across England, enabling the NHS to deliver value for every pound spent whilst ensuring frontline staff and their patients get the right products and services in the right place, at the right time.
Commercial activity covers all supplier-related activity, including procurement of products and services, commercial innovation, and supply chain management, and plays a central role in ensuring the financial stability of the NHS. The scale of NHS commercial activity is significant, with around £35bn spent across approximately 80,000 suppliers. The successful candidates will bring the relevant skills and experience to provide leadership and guidance in the above commercial activity that ensures financial stability of the NHS.
Essential skills and experience:
- A commercial mindset with strong business acumen acquired via a senior track record in the healthcare sector
- Proven strategic and analytical skills with the ability to identify both issues and opportunities, and provide workable solutions
- Proficient negotiation skills up to and including board-level commercial interactions
- The gravitas to influence at board level, yet equally have the demonstrable ability to drive effective change at an operational level
- Excellent stakeholder management, networking and, as such, communication skills
- The ability to foster and develop long-term commercial relationships
