Since its foundation in 2011, Academy Transformation Trust (ATT) has grown to its current family of 21 academies (primary, secondary, post-16 and FE, and one special school) operating across the East, South East, East Midlands and West Midlands. ATT is responsible for the education of over 13,500 learners, for the careers of almost 2,000 colleagues, and for the most effective spending of over £80m of taxpayer income each year. Role specification

Trustees are accountable for the strategic direction of the Trust, its effective financial management, and the educational performance of the academies. Trustees are non-executive and work strategically alongside a highly effective executive leadership team led by the CEO, Sir Nick Weller. The Trustees are also Directors of the Trust, which is a company limited by guarantee and registered as such at Companies House. Trustees are required to take collective responsibility for all aspects of the Board’s work – while specific skills areas are sought, it is expected that strategy development and accountability rests with all Trustees.


Person specification

ATT is seeking a new Trustee with strategic-level experience and a passion for the potential for education to transform lives. The Board is particularly interested in individuals who can contribute to its Audit and Risk Committee. This includes, but is not limited to, individuals from Legal, HR, Compliance, Audit or Risk backgrounds.

The successful candidate will be a strong collaborator, offering advice and support as well as being able to provide effective challenge where necessary. Fundamentally, the Board is interested in attracting enthusiastic and engaged leaders who are passionate about ATT's mission. Experience in the education sector would be desirable but not essential.

Terms of appointment

The role is unremunerated but reasonable, pre-agreed expenses will be reimbursed. There are four Board meetings, which Trustees can attend either in person in Reddicroft or virtually. Additionally, each Trustee will be expected to sit on one of the Board's Committees, which meet between three and six times per year either virtually or in a hybrid format. The appointment is for a four-year term, renewable once. 


Location

Trustees need not be locally based, but will actively commit to the role.
