About

Established in September 2016, Anglian Learning is a highly successful multi-academy trust based in East Anglia, which serves pupils and learners from across the age range and from a wide variety of backgrounds. Formed initially of three existing academy trusts, who recognised the huge potential of coming together to form one larger group, Anglian Learning has expanded in response to requests from other schools to join. Since then, the Trust has added a further eight primary and three secondary schools, and it now spans education from early years through to Year 13. With a new primary school set to open in September 2022, Anglian Learning looks to continue to grow over the next few years.

The overarching mission of Anglian Learning is simple and straightforward: to ensure the best possible educational outcomes and experiences for all of its pupils, for their families and their communities through self-sustaining, innovative and outward facing schools, able to support and challenge each other to achieve excellence. At the core of the Trust's philosophy is the belief that its mission extends to more than good grades—it is about a sense of community and offering wider services from the cradle to the grave. It is particularly keen to offer a strong Arts education across its schools.

Having gone through a period of considerable expansion, Anglian Learning now looks to consolidate and centralise several key functions to pave the way for longer-term sustainable growth. It wants to ensure that its ideas are implemented across all of its schools, ensuring consistency across the Trust.

Role specification

Anglian Learning seeks an outstanding individual to join its Board as a Trustee to work with the executive team, help shape its organisational strategy, and achieve its educational and charitable goals. This opportunity arises as a result of new skills being sought to complement the current Trustees’ experience.

Trustees, both as a group and as individuals, are responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the organisation, its financial health, the probity of its activities as a charity, and the development of its aims and objectives, in accordance with Anglian Learning's governing document and within legal and regulatory guidelines. They provide support and challenge to the senior leadership, but are not responsible for the day-to-day management of the Trust.

Person specification

As the Trust consolidates and develops a sustainable growth strategy, Anglian Learning seeks a new Trustee with senior change management experience in a multi-site organisation undergoing a period of expansion. The successful candidate will have gravitas and excellent communication skills to communicate with a range of stakeholders in various schools. Additionally, they will have a track record in streamlining people and culture initiatives in a similar-sized organisation (1,000 employees). Finally, they will bring diversity of knowledge beyond Cambridgeshire and could have experience as, for example, an HR Director, either from the private or non-profit sectors.

The Trust is open to candidates looking to take on their first board role. Younger applicants and those from ethnic minority backgrounds are particularly encouraged to apply.
