Mid-market Private Debt/Equity Fund seeking an Expert Advisor, UK SDN Services

The Fund seeks a highly experienced, senior strategic, commercial, or technical leader with a strong technical understanding of the software defined network (SDN) service provision environment in the UK. The expert will advise the Fund on key industry trends and dynamics and as well as illustrating the main technical considerations. (Deadline: 18th January)

This Europe-based, private debt and equity Fund finances small and mid-market companies across a range of sectors.

The Fund is exploring opportunities in UK wholesale network providers. It seeks a highly experienced expert in the sector to advise on market dynamics, technological framework, value chain, emerging trends, and the competitive environment.


Role specification

As it explores opportunities in the space, the Fund seeks an expert to advise on key technical considerations and broader market conditions within the UK wholesale network with a focus on software-defined network (“SDN”) providers and/or network aggregators.

The successful advisor will, with representatives of the Fund, discuss the key commercial, technical, and strategic considerations for organisations providing SDN services within the UK. In particular, they will advise on industry trends including the following:

  • General market developments
  • The key technical and value chain characteristics of SDN service provision
  • Pricing pressures and trends
  • The competitive environment within the UK
  • Additional business model information including key routes to market
  • Customer dynamics, including relationship acquisition and retention/churn
  • Sales and marketing strategies and techniques

The discussion will be on a time-limited basis, with conversations expected to last an hour, intended to take place over the course of the next five to seven days.


Person specification

The Expert Advisor will be able to offer a detailed and broad perspective of key trends in the software defined network service provision sector, including key market dynamics and trends.

As such, to advise with an appropriately specific lens, they will very likely have recently served (within the past three years) in a senior strategic, commercial, or technical role in a business providing SDN services to relevant clients in the telecoms space. Their remit will have included all or part of the UK. The ideal candidate will have served at Executive Committee or management board level in a relevant organisation with a specific focus on the UK market.


Terms of appointment

The position will commence imminently and will be time limited to the next five to seven days. The advisory process will likely last an hour, compensated at £500 per hour. Advisory discussions will be carried out remotely.
