TrakCel - Non-Executive Director

TrakCel seeks a highly experienced individual with a proven track record in successfully scaling SaaS businesses, preferably within the life sciences industry. The ideal candidate should bring a deep understanding of operational, regulatory and commercial expertise in a relevant sector. The NED will play a crucial role in guiding TrakCel to harmonise operations in hybrid software and professional services business lines, and in offering strategic insights to achieve long-term growth ambitions.

TrakCel stands as the pioneering provider of integrated cell and gene therapy software solutions, facilitating the orchestration, precise management, control, and tracking of such products. With the largest number of live deployments across a diverse range of therapy classes, TrakCel comprehensively understands the unique challenges encountered by global advanced therapy developers.

Established in 2012, TrakCel offers a B2B SaaS solution, enhancing efficiency in the Cell and Gene Therapy industry. Major shareholders include Telegraph Hill Partners and corporate investors like Cencora Inc. and LabCorp of America. Its second-generation platform, OCELLOS, launched in 2021, generating $7.9m in revenue last year. 

TrakCel’s customers are predominantly located in the US at the moment as this is where most of the market is located. It is expected, however, that the European market will grow over the next few years as well as the emergence of opportunities within the APAC region.

TrakCel is headquartered in Cardiff, South Wales with employees based in the UK, USA, and Poland.


Role specification

This NED will be responsible for providing strategic guidance, governance oversight, and challenging the Executive Leadership on its strategy. They will play a crucial role in shaping the direction of the organisation, continuing to foster a culture of transparency, accountability, and strong corporate governance. The NED will work closely with the CEO and other senior executives along with key shareholders.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Providing expertise in life sciences and SaaS business models, focusing on commercial and scale-up aspects
  • Offering guidance on operational and regulatory demands, harmonising operations in hybrid software and professional services businesses
  • Collaborating with the Board to ensure alignment of values, culture, and investor interests
  • Participating in quarterly Board meetings, providing valuable insights into the gene therapy sector outlook
  • Providing ad hoc guidance and coaching to individual members of the executive team
  • Constructively challenging and developing proposals on strategy
  • Scrutinising the performance of management in meeting agreed goals and objectives, and monitoring the reporting of performance

Person specification

The ideal candidate for this role will have specialised expertise in expanding a software business which combines an Enterprise SaaS model with the operational complexities of professional services and other consulting business lines.

The NED will provide strategic input on the international growth of the business, particularly in the United states where the majority of TrakCel's customers are based. They will especially be able to drive discussions on scaling TrakCel's Recurring Revenue model and enhancing its revenue streams.

Required skills and experience:

  • Extensive experience scaling SaaS businesses, preferably within the life sciences industry
  • Understanding of operational and regulatory demands in the life sciences sector
  • Expertise in executive coaching and providing guidance to executives and other stakeholders
  • Experience of hybrid software and services businesses on an international scale, with particular emphasis on the United States

Terms of appointment

This role is remunerated on a day rate of £1,500 - £2,500 per day. Travel expenses will be reimbursed. The Board meets quarterly.


Location

This organisation is headquartered in Cardiff. Board meetings are held on a quarterly basis in January, April, July and October. Meetings take place in the US (2), the UK (1) and mainland Europe (1). In person attendance is advisable but not essential.
