About

Revoluton Arts is a people-powered project on a mission to cultivate grassroots creativity in Luton and put on high-quality creative events. Their programme is designed by, with, and for Luton’s diverse citizens, running events and programmes that aim to inspire and support more Lutonians to engage in creativity in all its forms. Their work ranges from commissioning arts events and projects to capacity building and supporting the growth of creative talent within Luton.

Under its new creative leadership, Revoluton Arts is developing its five-year strategy that will see more Lutonians engaging both in-person and online as creatives, participants and co-designers. This is alongside building ambitious local and national partnerships to increase cultural reach and collective social impact in Luton and beyond. They also will seek to better empower and engage various communities through arts and culture — in particular, young people and under-served communities in Luton.

Their strategic focus will be building a body of knowledge on equitable collaborative models that empower communities and that can be shared with others; investing in local creative talent to build a sustainable infrastructure that contributes to the growth of local audiences; and creating a sustainable approach in the creation, delivery, and realisation of all their work, in respect of legacy-building, resourcing and the environment.

Role specification

The Board of Directors has overall responsibility for ensuring the charity meets their legal and regulatory obligations, including to Companies House as a registered CIC.

The main responsibilities of Board Members include:

  • Providing support to the organisation's purpose, vision, goals and activities
  • Translating the risks and opportunities of your specific area for other members of the Board
  • Driving organisational delivery and improvement
  • Drawing on networks, as appropriate, to support Revoluton Arts' work

The new Board Members will be instrumental in ensuring that Revoluton Arts fulfils its mission and strategic objectives in a way that is driven by their values and remains financially sustainable and environmentally responsible.

Person specification

Revoluton Arts is looking for up to six new Board Members. The charity is interested in hearing from individuals who bring a passion for, or background in the arts, and who are well connected and have the passion to advocate for Revolution Arts to guide the growth of this organisation. Successful candidates will also bring experience in either finance and operations, legal, charity safeguarding, or lived experience in a socially-engaged creative practice.

Finance and operations: Applicants will be financially qualified and able to guide the charity as it reviews and modernises its business model, creating a transparent mechanism to review its income and expenditure to realise strategic goals. They will act as a critical friend to the organisation as they implement their financial five-year strategy.

Legal: Successful individuals will have senior-level legal experience, gained in the charity sector. They will be able to provide expertise on legal matters and will use their knowledge to act as a sounding board to the rest of the Board. They will be able to advise the executive team to ensure all protocols and legal works are up-to-date and to standard.

Safeguarding: Applicants will bring safeguarding experience, gained at a senior-level in the charity sector. As safeguarding standards have changed rapidly, this individual will need to be able to advise the Board on best practices towards safeguarding the people they work with, their staff, and the larger community.

Lived creative practice:Applicants will bring creative expertise, along with lived experience, in a socially-engaged creative practice. Individuals can come from a broad range of industries, but be able to use their unique lens to contribute to the mission and programming of Revoluton Arts.
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

Revoluton Arts recognises that each Board Member is a leader in their own right and comes with a unique set of professional skills and personal experiences that enrich our organisation, whether that’s experience in law and company management, or local knowledge, creative expertise and an understanding of how best to support and safeguard children and young people.

Therefore, they especially welcome applications from people who are currently excluded from the creative industries, particularly in leadership roles, as well as people who might be considering a Board level role for the first time.
